China offers 24 Nigerian students university scholarship

The Chinese government has offered 24 Nigerian students scholarship awards to pursue various degree programs in China, as the two countries seek to enhance educational exchanges and cooperation. The scholarship is part of the China-Nigeria Bilateral Education Agreement (BEA). Qin Jian, charge d'affaires of the Embassy of China in Nigeria, said at a pre-departure ceremony held for the beneficiaries in Abuja that education is one of the important areas of cooperation between the two countries. "It is not only a demonstration of the close people-to-people exchanges between China and Nigeria, but also a great inspiration for deepening our bilateral exchange and cooperation in educational field in the future," Qin said late Thursday. Nigerian Jailed 10years For Drug Peddling In Bangalore, India

In what is being seen as a strong message to about 21 foreign nationals earlier arrested for peddling drugs, a district judge in Dharwad awarded a 10-year jail term and imposed Rs 1 lakh fine on 32-year-old Arthur Joseph, a Nigerian who was first arrested and put behind bars by Vidhya Giri police in January 2013 for supplying drugs. Police had caught the accused red-handed in his rented house at Sattur layout with large quantities of various drugs. Soon, a chargesheet was framed and a trial had been initiated two years ago. "If drug peddlers are convicted, then there will be some control over the drug mafia," a police officer said. Recently, in Bengaluru, former model Darshitmita Gowda, 26, was arrested under various sections of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS). International drug racket busted, 7 Nigerians arrested

7 Nigerians were arrested and 73 grams cocaine and five grams of brown sugar worth Rs 3.5 lakh were seized after Commissioner's task force and Anti Narcotic Cell of Central Crime Station (CCS) Hyderabad today busted an international drug racket. According to Hyderabad Police, the seven accused had come to India on a business Visa and had established a drug peddling network across metropolitan cities with the help of drug suppliers from Goa. The accused were selling the drugs at Rs 5,000-6,000 per gram. The accused were identified as Ejeana Raphael Chidera, C Akuabata, U Solomon Ubabuko, Obiora Chukwuemeka Peter, O Samson C, E Christian Chuku and U Promise Chukuwudi, all businessmen. "Three of the gang members stay in Goa and the remaining in Hyderabad. 3 NIGERIAN PILGRIMS ARRESTED IN SAUDI ARABIA FOR ALLEGED DRUG TRAFFICKING

The Saudi Arabian authorities have arrested three pilgrims from Kwara for alleged possession of substance suspected to be cocaine. Hajia Fatima Abolore-Jimoh, the Executive Secretary, Kwara Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, confirmed the arrest on Wednesday from Saudi Arabia in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN). She said the three pilgrims, who were among the first batch of 505 Pilgrims from Kwara, were arrested in Madinnah by Saudi Arabia security operatives. The executive secretary, who did not disclose the identities of the three suspects, said they were still in the custody of Saudi Arabian authorities. Abolore-Jimoh said the Saudi Arabian law would certainly take its course on the three suspected drug traffickers. She described the arrest as unfortunate and painful in spite of several appeals to them to be good ambassadors of Kwara and Nigeria.
