Federal Government Rolls Out Life Insurance for Workers — A Step Toward Broader Protection

.   Nigeria Fed.Executive Council

In a major policy move, the Federal Executive Council of Nigeria has approved a group life insurance package for civil servants and select public officials. This initiative aims to provide financial relief to families in case a government worker passes away while in service.

The policy covers key government personnel and is designed to ensure their loved ones aren't left in financial hardship after an unfortunate loss. With over ₦9 billion earmarked for the scheme, the government is sending a clear message: public service should come with dignity and adequate protection.

Why This Matters

The introduction of this life insurance policy offers three major benefits:

...Peace of mind for workers, knowing their families are protected.

...Boosted morale within the civil service, fostering a more motivated workforce.

...Support for Nigeria’s insurance sector, encouraging professionalism and accountability.

However, this kind of protection shouldn't stop with federal workers. Millions of Nigerians working in state government roles, local councils, or even the informal sector deserve similar safety nets. As the nation grows, inclusive welfare policies like this can bridge social gaps and strengthen national unity.

This is a great start. But more lives across all sectors should matter just as much.
